Southwest Health is proud to welcome James Heun, MD, a board-certified Oncologist and Hematologist, who brings nearly 15 years of experience delivering advanced, compassionate care to adults with cancer and blood disorders.
Known for combining cutting-edge treatments with a deeply personal approach, Dr. Heun is now seeing patients onsite at Southwest Health. Appointments can be scheduled by calling the Cancer and Infusion Care center at Southwest Health at 608.342.6260.
Before Dr. Heun joining Southwest Health, there has been limited cancer care services and saw community need to expand access. When introduced to Dr. Heun, Southwest Health knew he was the right physician to grow the program and support the community. “Every patient’s story is unique, and every treatment plan should reflect that,” says Dr. Heun. “My goal is to combine the best science with compassionate care so that patients feel supported and empowered every step of the way.”
Dr. Heun’s clinical focus includes:
- Adult cancers and blood disorders
- Cancer immunotherapy
- Gastrointestinal malignancies
- Palliative care
Beyond the clinic, Dr. Heun has played a vital role in expanding access to innovative cancer treatment. He helped establish a Wisconsin site for the National Cancer Institute’s Community Oncology Research Program (NCORP), making national cancer trials accessible for patients close to home. He also collaborated with the University of Chicago on ways to reduce the cost and side effects of effective cancer therapies.
