When you or a loved one is facing cancer, you deserve more than the latest treatments, you deserve compassionate care close to home. At Southwest Health, patients across southern Wisconsin have access to high-quality cancer care without the stress of traveling far from family, friends, and their support systems.
Southwest Health’s Infusion & Cancer Care team is committed to providing expert treatment with a deeply personal approach. From diagnosis through recovery, patients receive individualized care focused not only on treatment, but on helping them maintain quality of life throughout their cancer journey.
Cancer care continues to evolve, giving patients more options than ever before. Advances in cancer research, immunotherapy, and clinical trials are helping improve outcomes while reducing side effects and making treatment more accessible for patients in rural communities. Through partnerships and participation in programs like the National Cancer Institute’s Community Oncology Research Program (NCORP), patients in southwest Wisconsin can access innovative care closer to home.
A cancer diagnosis affects not only the patient, but also family and friends. Here are some ways to help navigate this journey together:
- Ask questions and take notes: Bring a notebook (or use your phone) during appointments to jot down treatment plans, medication details, and next steps. Don’t hesitate to ask for clarification.
- Lean on your support system: Friends and family often want to help — let them drive you to appointments, cook meals, or simply sit with you.
- Explore local resources: Ask your care team about support groups, counseling, financial aid, and transportation services. Many communities offer programs to ease the burden of treatment.
- Focus on self-care: Rest when you need it, eat nourishing foods, and allow yourself moments of joy — whether that’s reading, spending time with loved ones, or enjoying nature.
- Support for caregivers matters too: If you’re helping care for someone with cancer, remember to care for your own health and emotional needs.
Southwest Health also encourages patients, caregivers, and community members to connect with local support resources. Gilda’s Club is hosting a public program, Living with Uncertainty, on Thursday, June 4 from 5:30–7 p.m. in the Southwest Health Human Resources – EMS Conference Room (1350 Eastside Rd., Platteville, WI). The in-person program is open to all and will explore the common challenges of dealing with uncertainty during the cancer journey, balancing the knowns and unknowns, and providing practical tips for managing anxiety.
This support group is open to the public, those facing a cancer diagnosis or anyone looking to support. People can register at this link, events.gildasclubwi.org/Events/Info/Living_with_Uncertainty_PUBLIC-5178
Receiving cancer care locally means patients can spend less time on the road and more time focusing on healing, recovery, and the people who matter most. Southwest Health remains committed to bringing exceptional cancer care home to southwest Wisconsin.
