What to expect at your first meeting… and beyond

At Southwest Health, you are always our #1 priority. That’s why we’ll start with finding out more about you and your goals. We’ll take our opportunity together to explore the relevant parts of your medical and family history, and we’ll ask about any medications and supplements you’re taking. Lifestyle, stress levels, sleep patterns, energy and activity levels, and how your digestive system functions are all topics we will explore together. We’ll talk about what you’re eating regularly now and learn about your food and cooking preferences. With all that under our belts, we can talk more about what’s working for you and what’s not. And, we’ll put together some ideas for you and outline a healthy direction for you to start with.

We’ll follow up with you after that first appointment and offer you some further quick and easy adjustments to work into your meals. Think of this as homework that you control. Or assignments that will move you toward your goals.

How long will this take?

Most of our clients see us two or three times. People who are ready to learn and ready to change, tweak, and adjust their habits and lifestyle are those that find the most success the fastest. Others like a little more accountability or ongoing guidance. In either case, you’re in control. And your success is our success. Down the road, you might find it helpful to schedule a refresher appointment to be sure you’re staying on track and meeting your goals.

How much does this cost?

More often than not, nutritional counseling is not covered by insurance. But, we recommend contacting your insurance company to be sure of your benefits. Ultimately, if eating better and living healthier means you maintain a healthier weight, reduce your blood pressure and cholesterol, you’ll likely also take fewer medications, take fewer supplements, make fewer appointments to see your doctors, and suffer far less anxiety. Moving forward toward your goals can potentially save you big, not only in dollars and medications and lost time and hassles at healthcare appointments but also in getting you to a higher quality of life.
