Your ACL: bridging the gap between injury and play

by Brad Vamstad, Director of Athletic Training and Sports Performance

Anterior Cruciate Ligament or ACL injuries can be a devastating injury for an athlete of any age. In the United States alone, ACL sprains make up almost 200,000 reported injuries per year. Most common among those are athletes who participate in high demand sports like soccer, football, and basketball. ACL injuries in some cases require surgery to repair and in most cases a prolonged recovery period.ACLimage2

At Southwest Health, we understand that getting back in the game weighs heavy on your mind. Our experienced team of professionals at the Orthopedic Institute has built the ACL Bridge Program to get you back, healthy and strong.

Our program facilitates the safest and fastest return of an athlete to competition following an ACL reconstruction. It has been developed our experienced team of athletic trainers, physical therapists, and a sports performance trainer under the guidance of dual fellowship trained, orthopedic surgeon, Dr. Joshua Lindsey. The goal is to bridge the gap between the end of physical therapy and the beginning of an athlete’s full return to competition.ACLimage

We tailor each program to the Individual’s needs and challenge them to perform a variety of sport specific movement patterns in a progressive manner. Athletes will work on executing high level balance exercises, plyometrics, agility patterns, weight training and reconditioning with an emphasis on knee position while landing and squatting to decrease the risk of another ACL injury.

Our trainers and specialists work with each athlete 2 to 3 days per week in The Edge facility to get them back into the game safely and ready to play better than ever. For more information on the ACL Bridge Program call 608.342.4790.
