Southwest Health Welcomes New General Surgeon

As Southwest Health advances on construction of 26,000 square feet of new outpatient clinic spaces to continue meeting the region’s healthcare needs, they also announce the addition of General Surgeon, Maggie Steinbeisser, DO, to their growing professional Medical Staff. In addition to a wide range of laparoscopic and endoscopic general surgery capabilities, Dr. Steinbeisser brings special interests and skills in breast surgery, skin cancer, hernia repair, gall bladder, and colonoscopy.

“We are very proud to welcome Dr. Steinbeisser to our talented team of surgeons,” says Southwest Health CEO Dan Rohrbach. “She is a highly skilled and experienced surgeon with excellent credentials, and she is joining an already remarkable team. Our continued ability to recruit and retain surgeons and other professional staff of this caliber is a source of pride for us at Southwest Health. In maintaining these high standards, we remain a highly attractive location for the best candidates, and that enables us to provide the best possible care for the people of our area.”

Originally from the small town of Olivia, Minnesota near Minneapolis, Dr. Steinbeisser began her studies working toward a Masters of Medical Science in Physician Assistant Studies from A.T. Still University in Mesa, Arizona, before earning her Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine Degree from A.T. Still University School of Osteopathic Medicine in Mesa. She then completed a General Surgery Internship at Penn State Milton S. Hershey Medical Center in Hershey, Pennsylvania, and followed that training up with a General Surgery Residency at Henry Ford Wyandotte Hospital in Wyandotte, Michigan. Post-training, Dr. Steinbeisser gained additional experience in her general surgery practice at both Avera Marshall Regional Medical Center and Granite Falls Health Center, both in rural Minnesota.

“This area is much like the rural area I grew up in and practiced in,” says Dr. Steinbeisser, “and I am delighted to be here in Platteville to help care for southwest Wisconsin communities. I admire the strengths of the team at Southwest Health, and I’m looking forward to getting to know people in the area.”

Dr. Steinbeisser joins General Surgeon Stott Houghton, MD, and will see patients for consultations at the Platteville Clinic. She is one of seven full-time additions to the Southwest Health Medical Staff since June of this year. The advancements Southwest Health continues to achieve in professional personnel, quality of care, patient experience, and new patient centered facilities all contribute to ongoing improvements that make up a new chapter of healthcare for southwest Wisconsin and help safeguard the area’s access to high quality healthcare.
