Southwest Health Welcomes New Emergency Medicine Physician

Southwest Health proudly announces the addition of Kent Kramer, M.D. to their Emergency Medicine team. With a full spectrum of experience in Family Medicine, including 16 years of independent clinical, obstetric, emergency, and inpatient care, Dr. Kramer is joining southwest Wisconsin’s foremost Emergency Medicine team of 15 providers lead by Drs. Mark Bogner, Mitch Lewis, Bruce Lindsey, and Ray Sloan.

Dr. Kramer will treat both emergency and urgent care patients at Southwest Health on a half time basis as his full-time position will be shared with Grant Regional Health Center in Lancaster.

“Great teams attract great players,” says Southwest Health CEO Dan Rohrbach. “With our ER and Urgent Care services continuing to grow, we are very proud to add a physician of Dr. Kramer’s experience and skills to our team. Our communities have come to know we have a top-notch team of the most experienced emergency medicine practitioners in the region, and so we are delighted to attract a physician of Dr. Kramer’s caliber who can help us build on the quality emergency care we provide 24 hours a day.”

“We are also very pleased to be working with our neighbors at Grant Regional in Lancaster,” notes Rohrbach. “This is a preview of the type of highly qualified specialists we can recruit and retain when our two organizations cooperate for the benefit of both of our communities.”

A Wisconsin resident all his life, Dr. Kramer first entered health care as a laboratory phlebotomist, working first at Luther Hospital in Eau Claire, Wisconsin while an undergraduate student at the University of Wisconsin – Eau Claire. While attending Medical School, Dr. Kramer also served as a phlebotomist at UW Hospital in Madison, Wisconsin. In 1999 he earned his Medical Degree from the University of Wisconsin, and between 1999 and 2002 he completed a Family Medicine Residency at UW Hospital and Clinics, where he also served as Chief Resident in 2001 and 2002. In the years since, Dr. Kramer has practiced Family Medicine at the Mineral Point Medical Center as well as serving simultaneously in the Emergency Department at Upland Hills Health in Dodgeville.

“I’m excited to join the teams of Southwest Heath and Grant Regional,” says Dr. Kramer.  “Providing excellent patient care is rarely accomplished by one person, and I look forward to working with the outstanding providers and compassionate staff of both systems as we treat people in their times of greatest need. I am thankful the forward thinking leadership teams of these two organizations have given me this opportunity to serve the residents of southwest Wisconsin where I was born and raised.”

In recent years, Southwest Health has made major investments in technology, facilities, and people. Those advancements include making an unprecedented increase in local employed medical staff from two providers several years ago to a professional medical team now 43 strong.

“The ER team at Southwest Health is second to none,” says Rohrbach. “And you don’t have to take our word for it. We see 12,000 patients annually, and each ones receives a survey to evaluate our care. Comparing results to hospitals big and small across the U.S., we consistently rank among the top Emergency Departments in the nation. That’s important to us because emergency care is vital in small communities like ours. It’s tremendously rewarding for our team to know we provide that level of expertise right here at home for the people of southwest Wisconsin.”
