Inpatient Care

A mental health crisis sometimes requires direct personal care in surroundings that offer safety, security, and around-the-clock care. Our geriatric inpatient care is provided in a warm and supportive environment to ensure patients’ well-being.

Our professional team conducts a thorough evaluation to determine the cause of behavioral and mental changes in older adults. We then work with patients and families to develop a course of treatment.

Types of treatments, how often, and length of stay will all vary according to one’s needs and preferences. Treatments can include education, individual meetings with our psychiatrist, medication, or group therapy. Additionally, our social worker, nurses, psychiatrists, and activity therapists help with all aspects of a patient’s life.

Additionally, our inpatients may have limited mobility or chronic health problems. Or, one’s care may be complicated by illnesses like Alzheimer’s or Parkinson’s disease. With the help of our inpatient staff, such added difficulties can be made easier for patients and their families.

Our Inpatient Care Team

Our care is personal, and our team of healthcare professionals includes our psychiatrist, physicians, our social worker/counselor, nurses, and activity therapists. They work as a team to provide the best care possible. Our 10-bed inpatient care facility for older adults also includes professionals from other departments at Southwest Health, such as occupational, physical, and speech therapists, all available as needed.

Because no two patients are exactly alike, we develop a comprehensive treatment plan based on the results of a thorough physical and mental health evaluation. Our therapies are designed to help our geriatric patient’s better care for themselves. We work to ensure patients follow their provider’s instructions about taking medicines and live as safely and as healthy as possible.
