What is Intensive Outpatient treatment?
Southwest Health Center’s Intensive Outpatient program is for Medicare patients age 50 years and older who are experiencing behavioral or emotional difficulties but do not require the intense level of therapy needed for inpatient psychiatric services.

Who can benefit the most from this program?
Individuals at least 50 years and older who live at home, assisted living facilities or nursing homes that may be grieving the loss of a loved one, feeling depressed or anxious, struggling with health problems, or adjusting to changes in their roles or living situations.

What can the program offer my family member?
The program consists of approximately six hours of educational and supportive therapy sessions per week. Focus is on relationships, communication and expression of feelings. Participants will receive guidance with changing unhealthy thoughts and behaviors as well as developing coping strategies to improve one's sense of well-being.  The program includes:

  • Comprehensive psychiatric evaluation
  • Wellness activities
  • Medication management
  • Individual psychosocial assessment
  • Other therapies as needed
