What is Hospice?

The SHC Hospice mission is to bring life back to life, even when there is no cure. We believe in life and living, in healing and hope, in bringing light and color to life, no matter what the circumstances.

Our Hospice staff understands how to bring a vital measure of peace and comfort to the lives of people suffering from a terminal illness. We help patients and families cherish the present while coming to terms with the past. Through our loving work, we alleviate suffering and pain, helping people cope and endure. And, with each new day, we aspire to help others find hope and joy in living.

Hospice care is appropriate when a patient no longer benefits from curative treatment and life expectancy is about six months. The patient, family and doctor decide together when to initiate hospice services. Our staff is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

SHC can provide hospice care in a variety of settings:

  • The patient’s home
  • A family member's home
  • A hospital
  • A nursing home or residential care facility
  • A private hospice facility

SHC offers services to patients in Grant, Iowa, Lafayette and Richland counties.

With us, your care is always personal and our commitment to the team approach ensures that hospice patients and their families receive the support they need.
