If you're living with diabetes, join SHC for our Diabetes Healthy Living group. This monthly educational program is free and open to everyone. Share your challenges and successes with others to discover new ideas and learn how to better manage your diabetes.
Our goal is to help you build the confidence and tools to live healthy and well. Certified Diabetes Educator, Sandy Andrewes, RN, is available at (608) 342-4709 to answer questions.
Childbirth Preparation Classes
There is no greater experience in life than giving birth to a child. Our childbirth classes will help you approach your due date with confidence. Through supportive preparation, we'll help you make the birth of your child the joyful experence you want it to be. Our class will also give you a better understanding of the growth of your baby, the changes taking place in your body, and the process of labor and delivery. Stages of labor, breathing, relaxation techniques, complications, taking care of your newbor, and post-partum concerns are all thoroughly covered. This one-day class is held on Saturdays from 8:30 am to 3:30 pm at Southwest Health Center in Platteville.
We recommend attending the program that is nearest your due date. The cost is $40 for those delivering at Southwest Health Center and $45 for those delivering elsewhere.

Breast Feeding Classes
Designed for both new and experienced parents, this class will take you step-by-step through breast-feeding basics and beyond. Learn about priper technique and other helpful hints for a great beginning for both you and Baby!
Breast-feeding classes are held on Tuesday evenings from 6:30 to 8:30 pm and cost $5. Upcoming 2012 dates include May 9, July 11, August (TBD), and November (TBD
Arthritis Exercise Class
We want to make it easier for you to take your grandkids to the park, on a nature walk, a scenic drive, teach them your favorite game or just play with them.
Our Arthritis Foundation Exercise Program, led by certified instructors, helps you regain the life you once had. Our 16-class program is only $40. Each week, you'll engage in gentle activities adaptable to every fitness level. We want you to get more life out of life. Heart of the Community
Heart of the Community is a community-wide health initiative, driven by Southwest Health Center and supported by individuals and organizations who are champions of healthy living.
The initiative includes free programs, activities and events designed to motivate all ages to get fit - and enjoy it.
Heart Healthy Classes - fun, hands-on classes featuring topics like nutrition, exercise and aging well (announced in our Heart2Heart magazine and other mailings).
Diabetes Healthy Living Group- free and open to everyone. Typically held the third Wednesday of every month at 1pm at SHC, Platteville.
Hearts in Motion - free walking club (indoors in winter, outdoors in summer) in partnership with Park Place Senior Living. Call 348-5312 for information.
Young At Heart - a free club designed to connect people over 50 with fun events, cultural activities, and health and wellness programs around southwest Wisconsin. It's growing fast, and new information will be coming here soon! In the meantime, call 348-2331 for information or to become a member.
